HDDT has successfully negotiated with the West Coast Energy (WCE) – now Engie – acquisition of a stream of enhanced community benefit in this five turbine commercial windfarm near Glass. In effect, through HDDT the community owns 10% of the income from the development. The windfarm came on stream in January 2017 and community benefit payments have begun. HDDT reserves 25% of the income received for the two parishes closest to the development, Cairnie and Glass. These communities have established a grant giving organisation, the Cairnie Glass Community Trust (https://www.facebook.com/CairnieGlassCommunityTrust/), to receive and disburse their funds. HDDT will use the remaining income to further its charitable purposes.
